What is Check-in and Chat?
Are you feeling lonely or isolated? Here at Racing Welfare we provide a telephone Check-in and Chat service for vulnerable, lonely or isolated people within the horseracing industry. Our caring and compassionate advisors are here to support you if you ever feel alone.
Volunteers will call you on a regular basis for a friendly chat and to make sure you are OK.
Who is the service for?
Check-in and Chat is for anyone who works in or has retired from the Thoroughbred racing industry including their close dependants. There is no need to ever feel alone as we are only a phone call away.
How does Check-in and Chat help?
Loneliness can be very distressing and we are aware that it can be a major contributory factor leading to serious health problems. In 2018, research carried out by the BBC showed that levels of loneliness are highest among 16-24 year olds with 40% saying they often or very often felt lonely. The research also showed overall that loneliness is no worse in winter than at any other time of year.
Telephone services have been shown to have a positive impact upon participants’ mental well-being. In a report from Befriending Networks, a study including 123 service users showed that 76% of participants felt better about themselves and 71% felt more confident since receiving the calls.
